Riverside nursery consultation 2018
Riverside Nursery Decision
Update: 20 March 2018
The Council has now completed the statutory consultation to extend the age range of Riverside School, increasing provision in the school to provide up to 16 part-time places (8 Full-Time Equivalents) for nursery age children with complex needs - from the age of three years old.
Bromley Council began the process of consulting on the proposal in September 2017 and held a number of consultation sessions. We have also received a range of written responses to the proposal.
The statutory process has now been completed and we are pleased to confirm that the proposal has been endorsed and the new provision will be opening in the Summer term. This provision will enable nursery age children to access appropriate resources and interventions at the earliest possible stage in their school lives.
Admissions to the new provision will be for pre-school children with the most complex needs, who will have been formally agreed for an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessment. For further information, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 020 8315 4718.
We would like to thank everyone who took the time to contribute to the consultation process.
Proposal to establish part-time specialist nursery places at Riverside School from April 2018
Bromley Council continues to explore ways of delivering high quality services for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The Council want to enable children and families to remain in their local communities and be educated in local special schools with properly equipped facilities and specialist staff.
There is a significant rise in demand for SEND places both in Bromley and nationally. As well as a programme of expanding provision in specialist schools and mainstream schools there is a need to ensure those with very complex needs are identified early and interventions follow accordingly.
Riverside School currently provides specialist education for children with multiple learning needs between the ages of 4 and 19. The school has specialist staff, facilities and resources to meet a wide range of complex needs, along with accompanying multi-agency support.
The Council is carrying out a statutory consultation to extend the age range of Riverside School, increasing provision in the school to provide up to 16 part-time places (8 Full-Time Equivalents) for nursery age children with complex needs - from the age of three years old.
This will enable nursery age children to access appropriate resources and interventions at the earliest possible stage in their school lives. It is anticipated that following assessment these children would be likely to require a special school in order to meet their needs.
In September 2017, Bromley Council began the process of consulting on this proposed provision and held a number of consultation sessions. This has been incredibly valuable in gathering information and feedback from a wide group of people and informing the final proposal.
Copies of the statutory notice proposing the extension of the school’s age range are attached below.
