By far the majority of adoptions are straightforward, where a child or children in Bromley’s care are found a permanent place within another family but we also offer support in the following situations:
Fostering for adoption
Fostering for Adoption places a child with approved adopters who are given temporary approval as foster carers. If the court agrees that the child should be adopted and the adoption agency approves the match between the carers as adopters and the child, the placement becomes an adoption placement.
For full information download the Fostering for Adoption: Becoming a Carer' leaflet from the CoramBAAF website [external website].
Inter-country adoption
You will need to meet the eligibility criteria as set out on the 'Can I adopt?' page plus any criteria specified by the child's country of origin. You must be currently living in or habitually resident in the London Borough of Bromley for us to become involved.
Please contact us if you are considering being assessed as an inter-country adopter.
Partnership adoptions
If you live within the London Borough of Bromley and you wish to adopt your partner’s child, please contact us for further information. You must do this at least 3 months before applying to a court for an Adoption Order.
The child must also have lived with both of you for at least 6 months. Information on these adoptions can be purchased from the CoramBAAF website [external website] for £1 per leaflet.
Special cases
We will provide counselling and advice to foster carers wishing to adopt their foster child, and relatives wishing to adopt a particular child, before considering an application to be assessed.
